Description
The two galaxies in NGC 3256 look almost entirely merged into one from our vantage point on earth. When viewed with x-ray and additional imaging instruments, however, researchers have discovered two distinct galactic centres each with its own distinct star clusters and flows of gas and dust emerging from their cores.
These two galaxies are expected to play a big role in upcoming imaging and research as astronomers look to understand how and where stars form in rapidly changing conditions. This space structure is around 100 million light-years from Earth.
